Hints and Techniques for icyball® and thermalball therapy:
Instructions:
Heat or cool a thermalball in a rigid bowl with enough water to cover (submerged, completely surrounded by water).
Submerging a thermalball in a rigid microwave safe bowl. Increments of 30 seconds will adjust your microwave resulting in a "calibrated" time consistent temperature. Always check the surrounding water with your finger as a rough measure of how hot the thermalball will be when removed from the submerged water.
Do NOT use a ziplock or any other liquid sealing bag to act as a bowl as the bag will not completely surround (and submerge) the ball with water- and WILL cause premature aging, or damage to the device.
A crock pot on low, thermalballs completely submerged and not touching the heating elements, is an alternative heating method.
Do NOT OVERHEAT icyball® or thermalball products! On average, a small white will stay heated or cooled for 1+ hours and a large blue will provide therapy for over 4 hours.
Iced water works well to reach a desired temperature (or store in the fridge or freezer).
To clean; wipe your thermalball with a dampened towel with witch-hazel, alcohol or place them in the top rack of the dishwasher.
Beware of mini-crock pots! They do not have any temperature control and will boil and detroy your thermalballs.
Place an icyball® on a floor mat or flat surface and roll the affected area from the side on to the Slowly roll on top of the icyball® concentrating on the sore spots or small knots. Isolating one muscle group within your back and/or shoulders may take a bit of exploring. Once you locate the spot, use a hot or cold to provide temperature contrast while concentrating on local pressure techniques.
Middle Back:
Place an icyball® in the fabric sack to position it behind the back in an office or other "backed" chair.

Neck:
Standing or sitting upright, place the icyball® behind your neck and roll it back and forth over your spine and behind your head.
Cold icyballs® relieve the pain and inflammation associated with Arthritis while the warm relaxes stiff joints.
Hands:
Place an icyball® between your hands and massage using a rolling and squishing action. Scheduled use improves recovery from Carpal Tunnel surgery by weeks.

Headache:
Place an icyball® behind your neck to cool the blood and reduce blood vessel inflammation. Massage the icyball® over your forehead and temples. Relax...the pain will fade away.
icyball® can also be used to relieve the pain associated with Sciatica. Simply sit on the icyball® and roll over the affected area. Piraformis tension over time can cause inflammation of the sciatic nerve bundle as it passes through the buttocks on its way down the leg
Hot flashes disappear by placing an icyball® in direct contact with the temperature center (behind the neck).
Guitar Spot Pain:
Stretch your hand. Face your palm up and press down on your fingers with other hand. This will stretch just about every spot in your hand. also, shake your hands to loosen them up before you start to play. Roll an icyball® gently stretching ligaments, tendons and muscles on your hands and arms.
Computer Workstation Back Pain Relief:
Stretch your Kewlerband around your workstation chair with the lycra pouch exposed. Insert up to 4 icyballs® or thermalballs in the fabric sack and then place them in the pouch. Sit as you normally do while working or gaming leaning back on the cold icyballs® to sooth your tension and stress from marathon computing sessions.
Prolonged repetitive heating (with a crockpot, roaster, etc.) of the icyball® or Thermalball device will cause plastic fatigue of the shell or can compromise the valve seal. Careful inspection of the seal is required after extended use (i.e. months) and continuous cycling between hot, ambient and cold temperatures. Extreme care must be taken for hot applications with aging icyballs® to protect clients. Reorder icyballs® whenever the encasement seems too pliant or elastic for your applications. If in doubt, retire the icyball® from hot use and only use for cold therapies.
